Road Blockage Causes Fatal Accident On State Road 70

Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident on SR 70 in Manatee County.

Shortly before 4:00a.m. an accident on State Road 70 resulted in a large pile of sod being dumped onto the roadway just west of Betts road, blocking the eastbound lanes.

Minutes later twenty one year old Shayne Williams of Myakka City heading eastward on State Road 70 in a 1996 Ford Mustang approached the sod on the roadway in the darkness of night.

At the same time fifty one year old truck driver Barbaro Carabeo, of Valrico was driving a 2007 Mack Truck following behind Williams Mustang.

Williams unaware of the sod on the roadway collided with the road blockage and was brought to a stop on SR 70.

Shortly after hitting the sod, the Mack Truck crashed into the  rear of Williams Mustang and forced the smaller vehicle another 384 feet down the road before coming to a stop.

Williams sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision and was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment, however he later died of his injuries.

Troopers have charged trucker, Barbaro Carabeo with careless driving.
