Chain-reaction Crash Injures Two In Venice

Florida Highway Patrol in Sarasota announced a multi-vehicle crash with injuries in Venice.

FHP reports the accident occurred at roughly 4pm as seventy nine year old North Port resident Barbara Cook was heading south on River Road.

Cook was approaching three cars that had stopped for traffic near the intersection with Parrotfish Street. Cook approached the stopped vehicles at speed and failed to avoid a collision, crashing into the rear of a car driven by sixty nine year old Wesley Brill from Port Charlotte.

The force of the impact shoved Brill’s car forward where it impacted with a car driven by thirty eight year old Venice resident Jennifer Swowinski. This in turn forced Swowinsk’s car into the rear of a car driven by sixty-nine year old Daniel Schull of Englewood.

After crashing into the back of Brill’s car Cook’s vehicle was redirected off the road where it hit a traffic sign and came to a stop.

Both driver Cook and her passenger eight one year old Jimmie Cook were seriously injured in the accident and transported to Venice Hospital for emergency treatment.

Wesley Brill was also seriously injured in the crash and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for medial care. The other drivers in the crash were not injured and FHT stated that Cook has been charged with careless driving.
