About Bernie Walsh

Education Bernard F. Walsh graduated from the University of South Florida before receiving his law degree from Cumberland School of Law in 1978. During law school, he was selected to serve as a research clerk and intern for a Federal Judge and the U.S. Attorney's Office. He was awarded The National Book Awards for Constitutional Law and Professional Responsibility during law school. Experience Bernard Walsh devoted the next three years to trial work for the State of Florida. This provided him with the opportunity to concentrate on his trial abilities, with numerous high profile trials concerning serious felony crimes. Since 1982, he has exclusively practiced personal injury law and helped accident victims in and beyond Sarasota and Manatee Counties in Florida. Mr. Walsh has been listed in Avvo, an attorney rating site, as Superb. Drunk Driver Crash In Sarasota Injures 3

FHP announced an alcohol related crash in Sarasota that resulted in 3 people being injured.

The crash occurred at approximately fifteen minutes before six O’clock in the evening as forty-three year old Richard Torrington drove his Hyundai Genesis northbound on McIntosh Road in Sarasota.

At the same time twenty year old Clarence Johnson and his passenger two-year old Nevaeh Ramos were southbound in a Chevy Malibu. As the two vehicles neared one another Torrington swerved out of his lane and collided with Johnson hitting the car in the left-hand side of the front.

The force of the collision caused Johnson’s Chevy to be forced off the road where is crashed into a utility pole and came to a stop.

Two-year old Ramos was seriously injured in the crash and airlifted to All Children’s for emergency treatment. Johnson was also seriously injured in the crash and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

FHP troopers stated that alcohol was a factor in the crash and that Torrington who only suffered minor injuries, has been charged with driving under the influence

Sarasota Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Bradenton Motorist

Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. 41.

The accident happened as Sarasota motorcyclist, forty-one year old Mathew Knight was riding a motorcycle southbound on U.S. 41, approaching the intersection with Bayshore Drive.

At roughly the same time thirty-one year old driver Paul Watkins was eastbound on Bayshore drive approaching the intersection with U.S. 41.

Approximately six minutes after noon, Watkins turned left onto U.S. 41 from Bayshore and directly into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.

Knight collided with Watkins vehicle and sustained severe injuries. First responders transported Knight to Venice Regional Hospital. Knight later died from his injuries.

Moped Crash in Englewood Seriously Injures Rider

A report from the Florida Highway Patrol announced an accident between a moped rider and car has resulted in serious injuries.

The crash took place as sixty-six year old Englewood resident Thomas Knipe rode his moped to the Dollar General and entered the parking lot.

Just prior, sixty-seven year old Anne Roman from Moriches New York was southbound on Indiana Avenue approaching the Dollar General in a Toyota Prius.

Moriches drove into the parking lot and failed to see Knipe on his moped in time to stop. Moriches crashed into the moped sending Knipe who was not wearing a helmet to the pavement.

Knipe suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. FHP has charged Romano with improper lane change.

Bradenton Crash Seriously Injures Pedestrian

Florida Highway Patrol reported a crash with injuries in Bradenton Sunday night.

The accident happened as seventy-three year old Joseph Evans Junior from Palmetto was approaching the intersection of U.S. 301 and 15th Street.

At the same time fifty-nine year old pedestrian, William Christoper from Bradenton was walking along the edge of fifteenth street east as Evans approached.

At roughly 10:p.m. Evans attempted to turn onto 15th street east from U.S. 301 in his Ford F-150 pick up truck. As Evans drove onto 15th St.E. Christoper walked directly into his path and was struck by the pickup truck.

First responders took Christopher to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries.

The accident is currently under investigation.

Chain-reaction Crash Injures Two In Venice

Florida Highway Patrol in Sarasota announced a multi-vehicle crash with injuries in Venice.

FHP reports the accident occurred at roughly 4pm as seventy nine year old North Port resident Barbara Cook was heading south on River Road.

Cook was approaching three cars that had stopped for traffic near the intersection with Parrotfish Street. Cook approached the stopped vehicles at speed and failed to avoid a collision, crashing into the rear of a car driven by sixty nine year old Wesley Brill from Port Charlotte.

The force of the impact shoved Brill’s car forward where it impacted with a car driven by thirty eight year old Venice resident Jennifer Swowinski. This in turn forced Swowinsk’s car into the rear of a car driven by sixty-nine year old Daniel Schull of Englewood.

After crashing into the back of Brill’s car Cook’s vehicle was redirected off the road where it hit a traffic sign and came to a stop.

Both driver Cook and her passenger eight one year old Jimmie Cook were seriously injured in the accident and transported to Venice Hospital for emergency treatment.

Wesley Brill was also seriously injured in the crash and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for medial care. The other drivers in the crash were not injured and FHT stated that Cook has been charged with careless driving.

15 Year Old Killed By Car-Strike In Palmetto

Florida Highway Patrol announced a 15 year old boy was struck and killed while attempting to cross U.S. 41 in Palmetto.

FHP stated the tragic pedestrian accident took place at approximately 6:30 a.m. as fifteen year old Myquarios Kelly from Palmetto was at the intersection of 23rd Street East and U.S. 41. At the same time driver, sixty four year old John D’Auria from Tampa was driving on U.S. 41 approaching the intersection with 23rd Street East in the morning gloom in a Lexus ES300H sedan.

As D’Auria closed on the intersection, Kelly attempted to cross the road moving from the east side of the road toward the west side. D’Auria failed to see the 15 year old in the darkness and struck Kelly while he was crossing the road.

The Lexus impacted with Kelly on the right side, the force of the crash throwing Kelly onto the roadway.

Kelly died as a result of his injuries, FHP also stated that alcohol had not been a factor in the deadly crash.

School Bus Crash In East Manatee Injures Students

A crash in eastern Manatee county between a school bus and a commercial bus has been reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that the crash began as a bus from Manatee County Public Schools was transporting twenty nine students from Nolan Middle School on State Road 64.

Driven by fifty year old bus driver Tammy Hartley, the bus was stopped in the westbound lanes of SR64 close the stop at 411th Street East.

At roughly the same time bus driver sixty six year old Sergio Rodriguez was driving a Freightliner commercial bus transporting 49 adult workers also on the westbound lanes of state road 64.

For reasons unknown Rodriguez did not notice the stopped school bus in time to avoid a collision, and the Freightliner bus crashed into the rear of the school bus.

The collision resulted in fifteen Nolan Middle School students sustaining minor injuries, none serious enough to require a hospital stay.

Neither the driver nor the passengers in the Freightliner bus were injured in the crash.

Troopers have stated that Rodriguez has been charged with careless driving.

I-75 Car Hauler Crash Kills 3 Near Toledo Blade Exit

Florida Highway Patrol reported a major accident with multiple deaths in the southbound lanes of I-75 near the Toledo exit in North Port.

The sequence of events that led to the deadly crash took place after a car hauler driven by fifty one year old truck driver Eric Shawback from Haines City pulled the car hauler over onto the should just south of the Toledo Blade blvd. exit and stopped due to a mechanical failure in the truck.

After stopping on the shoulder of the southbound lanes, Shawback exited the vehicle.

At approximately fifteen minutes after five in the morning twenty three year old driver Nathaniel Perkins III from Fort Myers approached in a Nissan Murano SUV with passenger 22 year old Johnneisha Gadson of Fort Myers, and twenty three year old  passenger Sharnice Brown, also from Fort Myers. For reasons not yet known, Perkins drove onto the shoulder and crashed into the car hauler trailer at speed.

The force of the impact redirected the Murano, causing it to travel across the highway and slide back into the path of oncoming southbound traffic.

At the same time twenty one year old Hunter Harris from Port Charlotte was driving his Toyota Avalon with passengers 21 year old Austin Diedrick of Port Charlotte, and Anthony Dejesus also from Port Charlotte, in the southbound lanes of I-75 when the Murano careened off the car hauler directly into his path where the two vehicles collided.

Both the driver of Murano, Perkins and passenger Gadson were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The second passenger Sharnice Brown suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Shawback, the driver of the tractor trailer was hit by a vehicle or debris and died at the scene.

The driver and passengers in the Toyota Avalon all suffered minor injuries during the crash.

FHP also added that several subsequent crashes took place as traffic on I-75 came to an abrupt halt however no further injuries were reported.

Florida Highway Patrol announced an investigation into the crash was ongoing.

Sarasota Motorcyclist Injured In Venice Crash

Florida Highway Patrol reported a crash with injuries Venice Tuesday.

The report stated that thirty-two year old Gene Slivka of Sarasota was riding a motorcycle heading south on Shamrock Drive. At roughly 4:15p.m. Slivka approached the intersection with Ringtail Road. As Slivka closed on the intersection he entered a turn and for reasons unknown lost control of the motorcycle.

Slivka, motorcycle went down onto the road way, and continued to slide on the pavement until it collided with an oncoming van.

Slivka sustained serious injuries in the crash and was flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The driver of the van, 34 year old Jennifer Quintel from Sarasota was unharmed in the accident.

FHT representatives have stated that an there is an ongoing investigation as to the cause of the crash.

Charlotte Auto Accident Seriously Injures Venice Man

A man was seriously injured in a crash between a pickup truck and a scooter.

Florida Highway Patrol stated the crash happened as seventy three year Venice resident,  old Charles Hand Junior was following a pick up truck on his Kymico 8 motor scooter southbound on County Road 771.

The pickup truck, towing a trailer and driven by twenty three year old Port Charlotte resident, Dylan Jansch was forced to stop due to traffic. Charles Hand Junior swerved to avoid crashing into the truck but was unable to prevent colliding with the trailer.

Hand was seriously injured in the crash.
