Traffic Accident With Fatality Closes US 41 In Punta Gorda

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office reported an accident that resulted in a death in Punta Gorda.

The crash took place close to Pine Trail Road on the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 early morning. Southbound lanes were blocked for several hours untill crews had cleared the wreckage at 10:am.

The identities of those involved and further details of the crash have not yet been released.

Punta Gorda Car Crash Kills One

Florida Highway Patrol Reported an elderly woman died as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash Wednesday morning.

The accident happened when 89-year old Lilian Stainaker was attempting to back out of the driveway of a home close to the intersection of Sugarwood Street and Pine Needle Dr. at roughly 5:15 in the afternoon.

Stainaker accidentally accelerated too hard and speed the 2008 Ford Fusion sedan across Sugarwood Street and crashed into a mobile home.

Stainaker was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where she died of her injuries. No charges were filed and FHP has not indicated whether Stainaker was wearing a sea belt.

Crash Kills Woman From Port Charlotte

Florida Highway Patrol reported a woman from Port Charlotte was killed when she was ejected from her car during a crash on McCall Road.

The woman was driving a 2000 GMC Jimmy on McCall Road near the intersection of Fieldcrest Lane and apparently struck the curb with the right front tire of the SUV. The woman attempted to get the full sized SUV back under control by attempting to steer the vehicle back to the center of the road.

The driver however over corrected causing the vehicle to spin into the median. After entering the median the tires of the sideways sliding SUV bit into the turf of the median causing it to to overturn several times.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the SUV. The woman was taken to Englewood Memorial Hospital where she was declared dead.Officials stated the crash was still under investigation and it has not yet been determined if alcohol was a factor.

Englewood Crash Seriously Injures Man From North Port

Florida Highway Patrol stated a crash between a pick up truck and a parked car that has resulted in a man from North Port suffering serious injuries.

The accident took place Thursday near the intersection of Birchwood street and Prospect when Robert Jackson, a 55 year old from north Port was driving east on Prospect. The pickup truck Jackson was driving veered to the right suddenly, Jackson turned the wheel sharply to the left to steer back on the road but caused the pickup truck to loose control and run off the road on the left side.

The sharp change in direction contributed to the Ford pickup overturning and rotating in mid air. The truck landed on it’s wheels but crashed into a parked car.

FHP troopers said that Jackson was not wearing his seat belt during the accident,and as a result was seriously injured during the crash and was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital reported to be in critical condition.

Punta Gorda Man Dies From Motorcycle Accident

A motorcyclist from Punta Gorda died Monday from injuries sustained during a crash in Charlotte county that occurred Sunday.

Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident took place when Paul Ruleford  was riding his Suzuki motorcycle on Bryan Way heading towards  U.S. 17 with a young rider on another motorcycle. At around quarter to 6p.m. the young rider turned and headed off the road.

Ruleford followed but lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown from the bike at speed onto the roadway.

Ruleford, not wearing his helmet at the time of the accident, suffer severe injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Monday afternoon, Ruleford died from his injuries while under care at Lee Memorial

Auto Accident In Punta Gorda Kills One

Florida Highway Patrol reported an serious car crash early Tuesday morning that has claimed at least one life.

Troopers stated that the accident occurred at roughly 6:15 in the morning at the intersection of St. Pierre Road and Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda Florida.

FHP has not yet released full details of the accident but the wreckage from the crash has blocked the southbound lanes of Tamiami Trail. First responders had routed traffic to St. Pierre Road as a detour while the accident was investigated and the wreckage cleared from U.S. 41.

Englewood Motorcyclist Killed In Placidia Road Accident

A woman from Englwood lost control of her Harley Davidson late Wednesday while riding on Placidia Road.  After loosing control of the motorcycle she crashed into the concrete median and was ejected onto the roadway.

Florida Highway patrol reported that the accident occurred near the intersection  of Placidia road and Palm Manor/Merchants Crossing shortly before 100 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The rider, Lisa Baum a 47 year old from Englewood was taken to Englewood Hospital after the crash were she was pronounced dead.

Baum was not wearing a helmet during the crash and police investigators are determining if alcohol was a factor in the deadly accident.

Port Charlotte Hit and Run Leaves Bicyclist In Critical Condition

Gibralter Drive port charlotte bicycle hit and runFlorida Highway Patrol  reported a man from Fort Myers was struck by  a car while riding a bicycle.

The accident happened at 12:50 a.m. when a car traveling westbound on  Gibralter Drive near Hernando Ave hit a man riding a bicycle from behind.

The bicyclist, David Beck, a 45 year old from Fort Myers was throttled into the road. The driver of the car veered away to avoid running Beck over but continued on without stopping.

Beck was critically injured in the crash had to be flown to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Later police announced they may have identified a suspect. FHP stated that Jessica Sawyer, a 25 year old from Port Charlotte was possibly driving the 2005 Chrysler that struck Beck.

However the investigation is ongoing and Trooper Jeffery Hause has asked anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact him at 239-344-1730, Ext. 1156.

Man In Critical Condition After Crash In Charlotte County

Florida Highway Patrol reported an accident with injuries in Port Charlotte. A man from south Florida was critically injured after he drove into a stopped truck Friday evening.

The accident happened when Woodrow Hough was driving east on county road 74 towards the intersection with Bronco Road and rapidly approached a truck  that was stopped at the intersection.

Hough apparently did not see the stopped truck in time and was unable to avoid crashing into the rear of the truck. The resulting collision seriously injured Hough and he was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the stopped truck, Daryl Scott was waiting for for traffic to pass when the 2007 International was struck from behind by the Ford F-150 driven by Hough. Scott was unharmed in the crash and FHP stated as of yet no charges have been filed however the crash is still under investigation.

Punta Gorda Motorcycle Accident Seriously Hurts Port Charlotte Man

A motorcycle vs. Jeep accident in Punta Gorda leaves Port Charlotte man seriously hurt.

Florida Highway Patrol reported Thursday that at 12:30 JImmy Josyln a seventy one year old from Port Charlotte was riding his Harley-Davidson aproaching the intersection of Shreve Street and Olympia Avenue when he collided with a Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep was driven by Nanette Leonard a sixty three year old from Punta Gorda. The collision seriously injured Josyln and he was flown to Tampa General for treatment. Leonard was uninjured in the crash, however police are currently investigating the reason for the crash.
