Officials from the Sarasota Police Department announced a deadly crash on Fruitville Road in Sarasota Tuesday Morning.
The fatal accident took place prior to 8 a.m. when for reasons unknown, a vehicle heading east on Fruitville drove over the median and crashed directly into two vehicles heading the opposite direction.
A forth vehicle described as an SUV, avoided the collision with the wrong-way driver, however the SUV swerved hard to miss the crash causing it to collide with a tree.
One person was killed and four people have been injured in the crash.
Fruitville remains closed from Tuttle Ave. to Beneva Road as police and crews work to clean up after the deadly crash.
Sarasota Police announced a deadly single car accident on University Parkway near DeSoto road and Old Bradenton Road.
The report states that at roughly 2:30 a.m. four people were westbound at high-speed in a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. As the full-sized sedan neared the Sarasota-Bradenton air port, the driver lost control.
The sedan drove off the road and impacted with multiple trees, to force of the impact threw one passenger, Thomas Bentley from the vehicle.
The driver, twenty one year-old Wesley McCurley of Sarasota and two other passengers, twenty one year old Michael Duffy of Sarasota, and twenty one year old Dane Custer of Bradenton were killed in the crash.
Police have said that while excessive speed appeared to be a factor they are still investigating the cause of accident.
Dangerous River Road in Venice Florida has tragically lived up to it’s reputation. Florida Highway Patrol reported a 3 car crash on River Road that resulted in the deaths three people from Venice.
The crash took place at roughly 8:25p.m. as forty-two year old Joseph Clark of Venice was heading southbound in a 1989 Chevy Van following a Hyundai Sante Fe.
Clark attempted to pass the SUV while both vehicles drove on a curved section of the road that was a no-passing section just north of the intersection with Winchester Blvd.
At the same time eighty-four year old Donald Case of Venice was driving his Chrysler Town and Country northbound from the opposite direction also in the same curved section of River Road.
The two vehicles collided head on violently. The force of the impact spun Clark’s full-sized van around causing it to slam into the Hyundai SUV and rolled over upside down.
Clark, the driver of the van, was pronounced dead at he scene by first responders.
Both Donald Case, and a passenger in the Chrysler mini-van, ninety-one year old Ada Cerrito were also killed as a result of the head-on collision. In addition to Case and Cerrito, two other passengers in the Chrysler van, seventy-three year old Constance Burrell of Venice, and seventy-five year old Wayne Burrell also of Venice were transported to Venice Regional Bayfront with serious injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in one death and four injured in Venice Friday evening.
The accident took place at roughly nine in the evening as twenty-seven year old John Asendorf the Third from Port Charlotte was driving northbound in the southbound lane as he negotiated a curve on River Road near the intersection with Winchester Blvd., in a Honda Civic.
At the same time Land O’ Lakes resident, fifty-four year old Andrew Duffen in his 2011 Honda Pilot SUV was driving south on River Road and entering the same curve.
The two vehicles quickly closed on each other. In an effort to avoid a head-on crash Duffen turned sharply to the right, however there was not enough time to react and the two vehicles collided as they drove into the curve from opposite directions.
The violent collision resulted in Duffen as well as two other passengers, fifty four year old Diane Duffen and eighteen year old Rachel Duffen sustaining serious injuries. A third passenger 82 year old Cecili Sovyrda from Jacksonville was killed by the crash and died at the scene.
Andrew Duffen was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in serious condition and Diane and Rachel Duffen were taken to Englewood Hospital for treatment also in serious condition.
Asendorf, the driver of the car in the wrong way, was taken to Sarasota Memorial in critical condition.
FHP has stated that the crash is still under investigation.
A semi-truck crash in I-75 near River Road in Venice delayed traffic and drew a citation for the driver of the Tractor-Trailer.
The crash happened as Tampa truck driver, 37 year-old Jerome Graddic was in the left lanes driving southbound in a Ford commercial truck past the River Road exit. As Graddic headed down he left lane in a construction zone, a nearby vehicle in the right began to hydroplane and slide toward the Truck.
To avoid a direct crash with the hydroplaning vehicle, Graddic swerved sharply toward the center median, then turned sharply to the right to keep from heading directly into the construction zone. As a result the trailer became unhitched and overturned blocking the roadway. Crews worked to clear the blockage for nearly three hours after the accident.
Graddic suffered minor injuries during the crash and was charged by Police with careless driving and driving with an expired commercial license.
Graddic was transported to Venice regional hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
North Port Police reported a fatal two-vehicle crash Sunday Morning.
The crash took place at nine in the morning as 91 year old Wilber Mulhollen was crossing Tamiami Trail at the intersection of Tuscola Blvd.
As Mulhollen entered the southbound lanes of Tamiami trail his vehicle was struck driver-side by a car driven by thirty year old Jerod English also of North Port.
The force of the impact proved fatal for Mulhollen. Police are currently investigating the crash and no charges have yet been filed.
Florida Highway Patrol reported a man has died as a result of being struck by a car on Clark Road in Sarasota.
The crash took place at roughly nine in the evening as seventy year old Terrence Smith from Uniontown Ohio was driving east on Clark Road approaching the Lockwood Ridge Crossing.
At the same time forty-two year old Vicente Ruvalcaba from Sarasota was attempting to cross Clark Road on foot at the Lockwood Ridge Road intersection.
Smith did not see the pedestrian and struck him with his car at speed. Ruvalcaba was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he was died from his injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol reported a deadly motorcycle accident on University Parkway Sunday evening.
The fatal crash began when motorist, seventy four year old Richard Fleishman was headin west on University Parkway in his Toyota Camry closing on University Parkway and Honore.
At the same time twenty three year old Sarasota motorcyclist Quintin Clark was riding his Honda CBR 600 east on University Parkway also approaching the intersection of University and Honore.
As both vehicles closed on the intersection Fleishman attempted to turn left from University parkway onto Honore, running a red light Fleishman drove his car directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
Clark had no time to react and crashed into the sedan. The impact knocked him down onto the roadway and he continued to slide on the pavement for some time.
First responders pronounced Clark dead at the scene. Clark had been wearing a helmet during the crash. As of yet charges have not been filed on Fleishman.
Drunk driver causes mini-van crash with injuries on S.R. 72.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that eighty year-old Lee Fleming turned onto the westbound lanes of Clark Road at the intersection with Sawyer Road when he was hit by a Nissan Sienna traveling at speed on Clark.
The accident took place at roughly 4:45 in the afternoon when Lee Fleming entered Clark road from a green light on Sawyer Road. As Fleming drove onto to the westbound lanes of Clark he turned into the left hand lanes and was hit by a speeding Nissan Sienna mini-van.
The driver of the Nissan, twenty three year old Oscar Ovalles was traveling at speed down the westbound lanes on Clark road and ran the red light at Sawyer. As he sped through the light, Fleming pulled into the lane Ovalles was traveling in and the two vehicle crashed violently.
At the last moment Fleming saw the approaching Nissan and attempted to turn away but was unable to avoid the collision. The crash resulted in both Fleming and Ovalles being taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Fleming was in serious condition while Ovalles only sustained minor injuries. Police arrested and charged Ovalles with driving under the influence with serious bodily injury and violation of a traffic signal.
