Manager Of The Venice Yacht Club Dies In Motorcycle Crash

Florida Highway patrol reported David P. Yarzab, manager of the Venice Yacht Club died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle vs mini-van crash Wednesday.

The accident occurred when driver of a Chrysler Town & Country, Polley Lawrencethe an 85 year old from Sarasota, pulled out of the driveway at the Waterfrontoo Grille & Steakhouse onto Tamiami Trail but failed to yieild to oncoming traffic. At the same time David Yarzab, the General manager of the Venice Yacht Club was heading south on Tamiami Trail on his Harley-Davidson.

At roughly 5:30 p.m. with no time to react to the Town & Country that pulled onto the road, Yarzab collided with the driver’s side of the mini-van.

Yarzab, who was wearing a helmet during the accident, survived the initial collision but sustained sever injuries, was taken by paramedics to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Despite surviving the initial crash doctors were unable to save him and he died at the hospital.

Both the passenger,  79 year old Hazel Alberts of Sarasota, and the driver Polley Lawrence, 85 also of Sarasota were uninjured during the crash.

Lawrence was cited by the FHP for failing to yield right of way.


Accident With Injuries Closes Northbound Lanes U.S. 41 In Nokomis

Florida Highway Patrol reported that an auto accident at Giotto and Tamiami Trail in Nokomis resulted in injuries.

Few details are yet available bu the following is known, at about 6:30 p.m. a serious car crash occurred that caused injuries and enough wreckage to block the northbound lanes of U.S. 41

The accident took authorities more than an hour to clear and reopen the lanes

Highway Accident At Nokomis Casues Lane Closures

Florida Highway Patrol reported that an accident on I-75 Tuesday afternoon involving an overturned vehicle resulted in closing of the northbound lanes.

The accident was described as a single-vehicle rollover crash in Nokomis at mile marker 197. The vehicle came to rest blocking the right and center lanes of I-75.

Further FHP stated a passenger or driver of the vehicle was injured and a report of an individual being thrown from the vehicle as well.

The crash forced the closure of I-75 northbound lanes from just before 4:00 to reopening just after 5:30.

No further details have been released.

Pedestrian Walks In Front Of Motorcyclist Seriously Injured

A pedestrian vs motorcycle accident occurred in Nokomis Tuesday night when Paul Grudzina a 61 year old man from Nokomis attempted to cross U.S. 41.

FHP reported that the accident took place just before nine in the evening when Grudzina  attempted to get to the west side of the southbound lanes by walking across Tamiami Trail near the intersection of Avenida de la Isla. Grudzina, failed to see the oncoming Harley Davidson being ridden by a man from Sarasota also in his sixties.

The motorcyclist attempted to avoid crashing into the pedestrian by veering to the side. Grudzina  was struck by the side of the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.

First responders took Grudzina  to Venice Regional Medical Center for treatment and the motorcyclist was not injured in the collision.

FHP also said no charges have been filed.
