Single-Car Crash Near Osprey Injures Venice Man

A Florida Highway Patrol report announced a single car crash near Osprey FL on state road 681.

The report states that at nearly seven thirty a.m. seventy year old Gregory Vahle was northbound on state road 681 heading from Nokomis toward the I-75 interchange in an Audi A5 sedan.

For reasons unknown Vahle turned suddenly to the right then over-corrected turning back toward the left causing the car to veer out of control as Vahle approached the intersection with En Theos lane.

The Audi sedan still traveling at speed, drove off the road and collided with a traffic light then crashed into a control box coming to a stop.

Officials from the FHP have stated the crash is still being investigated and have asked anyone with knowledge of the crash to contact them at 1-239-938-1800.

Van Crashes Into Utility Pole In Osprey Killing Driver

Sarasota Police said a man was killed Saturday when the van he was driving crashed into a utility pole.

The accident occurred when Joseph Nauman a 51 year old from Fort Myers was driving north on U.S. 41 inĀ  Osprey shortly after 10a.m. Saturday morning. As the van traveled north in the right-hand lane it swerved off the road and collided with the utility pole at speed.

A witness of the crash told authorities that the driver of the man was suffering a heart attack which caused the crash, however this claim has not been verified.

The driver of the van, 51 year old Joseph Nauman from Ft. Myers died at the scene of the crash.

The force of the collision broke the utility pole and disrupted cable service for residents in Osprey for several hours.

SUV vs Bicycle Crash In Osprey Leaves Bicyclist In Critical Condition

East Bay St US 41 CrashA man from Sarasota was struck by a Chevy Blazer when attempting to cross U.S. 41 in Osprey.

According to Florida Highway patrol the man, fifty two year old Jody Gregory from Sarasota was hit when he road his bicycle into the intersection of East Bay Street and U.S. Tamiami Trail late Wednesday night.

Gregory, went through a red light heading west and rode directly into the path of the oncoming SUV, a 2004 Chevy Blazer that was traveling north.

The driver of the SUV did not have time to avoid crashing into Gregory. The force of the collision threw Gregory from his bicycle into the roadway.

Gregory was critically injured in the accident and was flown by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton Florida .

Florida Highway patrol stated that while the investigation was still in progress, chargers were likely pending.
