A head-on crash on route US 301 in Manatee County resulted in two people suffering serious injuries.
According the the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at roughly 11:30pp as twenty three year old Zachary Peters from Parrish was southbound on US 301 driving a GMC Sierra pick up truck.
At the same time thirty year old Michelle Lachance also from Parrish was heading north on US 301 driving a Dodge Journey SUV.
As the two vehicles closed on each other near the intersection with Dickey Road, Lachance drifted into to the opposing lane and directly into the path of the oncoming pick up truck.
The two vehicles collided head on, the force of the impact sending them off the roadway.
According the FHP report after crashing into the SUV, the GMC Sierra pick up truck overturned twice and caught fire.
Troopers stated that both Peters and Lachance were seriously injured in the crash, and that the collision remains under investigation.
Tuesday morning the driver of a Buick sedan heading south on U.S. 301 cut across the median and proceeded south in the north-bound lanes.
The Buick still driving south in the northbound lanes entered a curve in U.S. 301 at he same time a tractor-trail was entering the same curve from the other side.
The driver of the truck, Otniel Medina attempted to turn to avoid crashing into the Buick but the two vehicles collided violently killing the driver of the Buick.
Due to the nature of the injuries sustained by the the driver it took authorities some time to determine the identity of the driver. Police reported the drive was 83-year old Julian Laney from Venice.
Apparently both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and it is still unknown why Laney was driving the wrong way or whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
A fatal accident occurred Sunday on interstate 75 at Moccasin Wallow Rd, Parrish FL.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just prior to 11:30 in the morning when a woman swirved to avoid a tire tread, over compensated and the SUV overturned at speed. The driver of the vehicle Lizza E. Blunt, 42, of Wesley Chapel was killed in the accident.
The other passengers in the Ford SUV, 27-year-old Timothy D. Portalatin of Wesley Chapel and 24-year-old Chistine A. Penn of Flushing, N.Y. , were flown by paramedics to Bayfront Medical Center in St., Petersburg.
