Florida Highway Patrol reported a crash at the intersection of Clark and Proctor Wednesday morning with injuries.
The accident involved two vehicles including a pickup truck and a car resulted in four with injuries including on who was severely injured and had to be medivaced by helicopter to an area trauma center.
FHP’s report stated that the collision occurred shortly after 8:15 when a pickup truck westbound on Clark road crashed into a car that had attempted to turn left from Proctor onto Clark but failed to see the oncoming truck.
FHP released the names of some of those involved in the accident. David Vetter, a 62 year old Port St. Lucie man drove the pickup truck suffered injuries and was taken for treatment at Doctors Hospital. The passenger of the pickup truck, 52 year old Sandra Lyday from Arcadia suffered injuries and was taken to Blake Medical Center.
The car was driven by 35 year old Jack Habashy from Sarasota and passengers included two young children.
The cleanup and subsequent investigation of the accident blocked traffic at the intersection for more than an hour while crews removed the wrecked vehicles and police investigated the scene. The driver of the car was cited by Troopers for causing the crash.
Florida Highway Patrol reported a hit and run crash that occurred Sunday night on Beneva Rd.
The crash happened just south of Proctor rd. around 7 P.M. when witnesses stated that a vehicle on Beneva Lane was heading east failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into a Toyota Avalon driven by Leo Katz an elderly Sarasota man. Katz was heading south on Beneva Rd in the slow lane when the car collided with his Toyota.
The suspect the sped away from the accident scene, the collision of which resulted in Mr. Katz and three additional passengers of the Avalon sustaining minor injuries. Katz later received treatment for his injuries at Sarasota Memorial.
FHP Troopers have asked that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional knowledge to contact them at 492-5850 to help resolve the case.
Saturday night a Sarasota man wast struck by a Ford F350 truck while riding his bicycle east on Proctor Road at around 8:54 p.m.
The Bicyclist ( Lester E. Hawley, 46, of Sarasota) was riding with no lights when he was hit. Danny E. Lewis, 21 also of Sarasota, did not see him in time and hit him from behind with the right front of his F-350.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol Lewis will be charged with careless driving and charges are also pending for Hawley.
According to the Florida Highway patrol, a crash at at the intersection of Proctor Road and Honore Avenue in Sarasota County between a Ford Explorer and a sedan resulted in the driver of the Ford Explorer being killed.
The driver of the sedan was treated on scene, a passenger riding in the Explorer was flown to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when the sedan, traveling westbound on Proctor failed to stop for a flashing red light and collided with the Explorer at the Honore Ave. intersection. The driver, driven by Dixie Ann Gallagher, 58, of Sarasota from Sarasota died at the scene and the passenger was taken to Blake for medical treatment.
The Ford explorer came to rest overturned in the bicycle lane. FHP said The driver of the sedan has been cited for failure to obey a flashing red signal and an investigation is ongoing.
