A motorcyclist from Punta Gorda died Monday from injuries sustained during a crash in Charlotte county that occurred Sunday.
Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident took place when Paul Ruleford was riding his Suzuki motorcycle on Bryan Way heading towards U.S. 17 with a young rider on another motorcycle. At around quarter to 6p.m. the young rider turned and headed off the road.
Ruleford followed but lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown from the bike at speed onto the roadway.
Ruleford, not wearing his helmet at the time of the accident, suffer severe injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Florida Highway Patrol reported an serious car crash early Tuesday morning that has claimed at least one life.
Troopers stated that the accident occurred at roughly 6:15 in the morning at the intersection of St. Pierre Road and Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda Florida.
FHP has not yet released full details of the accident but the wreckage from the crash has blocked the southbound lanes of Tamiami Trail. First responders had routed traffic to St. Pierre Road as a detour while the accident was investigated and the wreckage cleared from U.S. 41.
A motorcycle vs. Jeep accident in Punta Gorda leaves Port Charlotte man seriously hurt.
Florida Highway Patrol reported Thursday that at 12:30 JImmy Josyln a seventy one year old from Port Charlotte was riding his Harley-Davidson aproaching the intersection of Shreve Street and Olympia Avenue when he collided with a Jeep Wrangler.
The Jeep was driven by Nanette Leonard a sixty three year old from Punta Gorda. The collision seriously injured Josyln and he was flown to Tampa General for treatment. Leonard was uninjured in the crash, however police are currently investigating the reason for the crash.
Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident with injuries on I-275 in Manatee county. The accident occurred early morning around 5:30 am when the driver (James Boyer, 79 of Port Charlotte) collapsed or went unconscious while driving.
Out of control, the car crossed the highway and collided with a barrier wall, then crossed the highway again to crash into the opposite barrier and finally come to a stop.
The two passengers, a 75-year-old male from Punta Gorda suffered minor injuries and a 98-year-old female passenger also from Punta Gorda was injured seriously. Both passengers were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital. Everyone in the car was wearing seat belts and there was no other vehicles in the crash.
