Drunk Driver Crash In Sarasota Injures 3

FHP announced an alcohol related crash in Sarasota that resulted in 3 people being injured.

The crash occurred at approximately fifteen minutes before six O’clock in the evening as forty-three year old Richard Torrington drove his Hyundai Genesis northbound on McIntosh Road in Sarasota.

At the same time twenty year old Clarence Johnson and his passenger two-year old Nevaeh Ramos were southbound in a Chevy Malibu. As the two vehicles neared one another Torrington swerved out of his lane and collided with Johnson hitting the car in the left-hand side of the front.

The force of the collision caused Johnson’s Chevy to be forced off the road where is crashed into a utility pole and came to a stop.

Two-year old Ramos was seriously injured in the crash and airlifted to All Children’s for emergency treatment. Johnson was also seriously injured in the crash and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

FHP troopers stated that alcohol was a factor in the crash and that Torrington who only suffered minor injuries, has been charged with driving under the influence

Pedestrian Injured After Being Hit By Car On Beneva

Sarasota authorities reported a pedestrian accident with serious injuries on Beneva road.

The accident happened as sixty-five year old  Mary Tognareli of Sarasota began to walk onto the roadway of Beneva Road just south of Treeline Road.

At the same time a Nissan Altima being driven by a female teenager was traveling on Beneva road.

As Tongareli entered the road she was struck by the sedan and critically injured.

Tongareli was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Downtown Sarasota Roundabout Crash Kills Motorcyclist

 Police in Sarasota announced a fatal motorcycle accident downtown.

At roughly 1:45 in the morning 27 year old Alaska native motorcyclist Aleksandr was riding a motorcycle eastbound on Main Street and entered the roundabout at Main Street and Orange.

Witnesses stated that  Aleksandr may have been traveling too fast causing him to fail to negotiate the turn. Aleksandr collided with the roundabout and was thrown from his motorcycle. Aleksandr died as a result of his injuries.

Police are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the  crash.

SUV Crash Near Riverview High Injures One

Florida Highway Patrol announced a crash with injuries near Riverview High in Sarasota.

FHP troopers are investigating an auto accident that took place near Riverview High School Tuesday afternoon.

The crash between a VW sedan and a General Motors Corporation Yukon sport utility vehicle happened are roughly 4:15p.m.

The collision resulted in the GMC SUV overturning, and at least one person with injuries. Neither the identities of the injured person, nor the other parties involved in the crash have been released.

An official from the Sarasota County Fire Department stated the injured person was brought to the local fire department for treatment.

Four Hurt and One Dead In Multi-Vehicle Crash On Fruitville Road

Officials from the Sarasota Police Department announced a deadly crash on Fruitville Road in Sarasota Tuesday Morning.

The fatal accident took place prior to 8 a.m. when for reasons unknown, a vehicle heading east on Fruitville drove over the median and crashed directly into two vehicles heading the opposite direction.

A forth vehicle described as an SUV, avoided the collision with the wrong-way driver, however the SUV swerved hard to miss the crash causing it to collide with a tree.

One person was killed and four people have been injured in the crash.

Fruitville remains closed from Tuttle Ave. to Beneva Road as police and crews work to clean up after the deadly crash.

Venice High School Principal In Critical Condition After Accident

FHP announced that Venice High School Principal Jack Turgeon was in critical condition after his Jeep Wrangler collided with a utility pole.

Florida Highway Patrol officers said the crash took place at the intersection Avenue D and Stickney Point Road shortly after 1:30 a.m. as 46 year old Jack Turgeon drove his 1988 Jeep Wrangler on Stickney Point road and attempted to turn right onto Avenue D. As the Jeep entered the turn it spun clockwise, slid onto the shoulder and crashed into a utility pole.

Turgeon, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Head-On Crash Injures Woman In Sarasota

Sarasota Police announced a head-on crash near Honore Avenue.

The accident happened as an unidentified woman was driving on Richardson Road in the area of Honore Avenue. At approximately 3:30 in the afternoon she collided head-on with another vehicle.

The crash slammed the woman’s car backwards where it came to rest on the precipice of a steep drainage ditch adjacent to the Sarasota Football Club.

The other car was found near the crash scene and the condition of the driver has not been released.

The injured woman was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Two From Sarasota Killed In Fiery Crash While Fleeing Sarasota Police

Florida Highway Patrol announced that two were killed in a crash after fleeing a traffic stop.

The crash happened after Sarasota Police attempted to stop the driver of a 2007 BMW 750Li  at Washington Ct. and 24th St. in Sarasota. The BMW fled and because of danger to civilians the officers did not pursue.

After fleeing the Sarasota Police officers, the driver of the BMW continued at a high rate of speed heading west on University Parkway and attempted to turn right on to the northbound lanes of U.S. 301 but was going much too fast and failed to negotiate the turn. At roughly 2:30a.m. the speeding BMW crossed over the shoulder and high an embankment at the rail line causing the sedan to be launched into the air.

While airborne the BMW smashed into a railroad support pole and the crashed into another. After hitting the pole head-on the car came out of the air onto a metal guardrail in the median and burst into flames finally coming to a stop. Both driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car had a history of multiple traffic violations including  fleeing officers and driving with a suspended license.

Englewood Man Seriously Hurt In Sarasota I-75 Crash

Officials from Florida Highway Patrol have said a man from Englewood allegedly ran a red light near the exit ramp of I-75 and Fruitville road causing an accident with serious injuries..

The crash took places just prior to 8:30 p.m. when thirty five year old Egor Klimantovich was driving eastbound on Fruitville Road in Sarasota.

As Klimantovich approached the intersection with interstate seventy five ramp traffic, witnesses stated he failed to stop when the light turned red.

When the drivers of two vehicles exiting I-75 were given the green light to turn onto Fruitville they proceeded unaware of the oncoming vehicle.

As the vehicles entered the intersection attempting to turn onto the westbound lanes Klimantovich’s vehicle slammed into the first vehicle at speed which in turn, crashed into the second vehicle attempting to turn onto Fruitville.

Klimantovich suffered serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. The driver of the first car hit by Klimantovich was taken to Doctors Hospital in Sarasota with minor injuries.

Troopers have stated they will be charging Klimantovich with no proof of insurance and failing to stop at a red light.

Car Vs. Motorcycle Crash On Bee Ridge Road Critically Injures Motorcyclist

Florida Highway Patrol reported a crash involving a motorcyclist and a Ford compaq SUV early Wednesday morning on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota.

The accident took place when Tyler Castillo 19 from Sarasota was eastbound on Bee Ridge Road. At roughly 7:30 a.m. Castillo collided with a Ford Escape being driven by Jeff Etienne, 26 also from Sarasota.

The force of the collision threw Castillo from his Honda motorcycle into the westbound lanes of Bee Ridge Rd. Castillo was struck by a F-250 pick up truck and was critically injured. The motorcycle continued on into the median and came to a stop after striking a tree.

Castillo was taken by Bayflite to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment.

Police cited Castillo for reckless driving and having an expired registration.
