Florida Highway Patrol announced a 15 year old boy was struck and killed while attempting to cross U.S. 41 in Palmetto.
FHP stated the tragic pedestrian accident took place at approximately 6:30 a.m. as fifteen year old Myquarios Kelly from Palmetto was at the intersection of 23rd Street East and U.S. 41. At the same time driver, sixty four year old John D’Auria from Tampa was driving on U.S. 41 approaching the intersection with 23rd Street East in the morning gloom in a Lexus ES300H sedan.
As D’Auria closed on the intersection, Kelly attempted to cross the road moving from the east side of the road toward the west side. D’Auria failed to see the 15 year old in the darkness and struck Kelly while he was crossing the road.
The Lexus impacted with Kelly on the right side, the force of the crash throwing Kelly onto the roadway.
Kelly died as a result of his injuries, FHP also stated that alcohol had not been a factor in the deadly crash.
The report from Florida Highway Patrol stated that a Dodge Ram pickup truck crashed into a motorized bicycle on Tamiami Trail in port Charlotte.
The crash took place as the twenty five year old Andrew Toner from Port Charlotte was trying to cross Tamiami Trail near Elkcam Blvd. At the same time fourty nine year old Anthony Maiello, also from Port Charlotte, was heading south on Tamiami Trail in his Ram pickup truck.
Toner road into the path of the oncoming Dodge Ram, Maiello attempted to avoid a crash but there was not enough time to stop. The force of the crash resulted in Toner sustaining critical injuries and he was taken by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Toner was not wearing a helmet during the accident. Traffic was stopped for roughly 60 minutes while crews and police responded to the crash.
A three car accident in Sarasota on U.S. 41 resulted in at least three people being injured.
The crash took place just prior to 10 a.m. at the intersection of Tamiami Trail and 42nd Street when witnesses reported a Volkswagen traveling in the northbound lanes crossed traffic, drove over the median and careened into the southbound traffic. As the Volkswagen drove into southbound lanes and crashed into a van, and possibly two other vehicles.
One person was seriously injured and had to be taken by Paramedics to an area trauma center. Two other injured people were taken to area hospitals by ambulance.
Sarasota Police have stated an investigation is ongoing.
An accident between a motorcyclist and car on Tamiami Trail near Phillippi Street in Sarasota has left the rider in critical medical condition.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred when 76-year old Florentino Mazzucco was driving his motorcycle north on Tamiami Trail after 9:30 a.m. closing on the intersection with Phillippi Street. Mazzucco abruptly attempted to change lanes but crashed into a car being driven by an 84 year old woman.
The force of the collision knocked the helmet-less Mazzucco over, sending him off of his motorcycle and onto the street.
FHP has charges Mazzucco with driving with a suspended license and careless driving.
Authorities transported Mazzucco to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for emergency medical treatment.
The driver of the car was not harmed in the crash.
A multicar accident in Venice resulted in three people being taken to area hospitals with injuries.
According to authorities, the accident happened about 2p.m. Friday afternoon on Tamiami Trail and Englewood Road.
Sarasota County Fire Department stated that at least on person had to be extracted from a damaged vehicle. The accident apparently blocked all three northbound lanes as well as part of the median.
Full details have not yet been released, including the cause of the crash and the names of those involved.
Early Friday morning, authorities reported at least on death resulting from a traffic accident on Tamiami Trail in Venice.
The accident occurred soon after 3 a.m. near Rockley Boulevard on Tamiami Trail. Florida Highway Patrol Will be releasing additional details later.
Currently no details are available as to the identities of the victim/s and the sequence of events.
Florida Highway Patrol reported a car struck a pedestrian from Venice, seriously injuring him.
The pedestrian, Andrew Delon, 21 of Venice was rushed to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment. The collision left Delon in serious condition.
The accident occurred on southbound Tamiami Trail shortly after 2pm Saturday when Delong who had been walking along U.S. 41 and attempted to run across the entrance to a McDonald’s restaurant and was struck by a car.
Both the driver of the car and the 71 year-old passenger were not injured in the accident. Driven by Debbie Austin from Indianapolis, has not been charged.
