A head-on crash on route US 301 in Manatee County resulted in two people suffering serious injuries.
According the the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at roughly 11:30pp as twenty three year old Zachary Peters from Parrish was southbound on US 301 driving a GMC Sierra pick up truck.
At the same time thirty year old Michelle Lachance also from Parrish was heading north on US 301 driving a Dodge Journey SUV.
As the two vehicles closed on each other near the intersection with Dickey Road, Lachance drifted into to the opposing lane and directly into the path of the oncoming pick up truck.
The two vehicles collided head on, the force of the impact sending them off the roadway.
According the FHP report after crashing into the SUV, the GMC Sierra pick up truck overturned twice and caught fire.
Troopers stated that both Peters and Lachance were seriously injured in the crash, and that the collision remains under investigation.
Florida Highway Patrol reported a crash with injuries in Bradenton Sunday night.
The accident happened as seventy-three year old Joseph Evans Junior from Palmetto was approaching the intersection of U.S. 301 and 15th Street.
At the same time fifty-nine year old pedestrian, William Christoper from Bradenton was walking along the edge of fifteenth street east as Evans approached.
At roughly 10:p.m. Evans attempted to turn onto 15th street east from U.S. 301 in his Ford F-150 pick up truck. As Evans drove onto 15th St.E. Christoper walked directly into his path and was struck by the pickup truck.
First responders took Christopher to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries.
The accident is currently under investigation.
Florida Highway Patrol announced a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle in Sarasota that left the motorcyclist in serious medical condition.
According to FHP the crash took place prior to nine in the evening at the intersection of Fruitville Rd. and U.S. 301.
Witnesses stated that the force of the collision sent the motorcycle’s rider airborne causing the rider to slam into the roadway where they went limp.
Sarasota police responded to the accident and were interviewing witnesses and stated an investigation was ongoing.
The driver of the pickup truck was not harmed in the crash.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that an auto accident involving four vehicles on U.S. 301 in Manatee County has seriously injured two.
The report states that the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling in the north-bound lanes of 301 crashed into the back of a line of cars waiting for traffic.
The force of the impact caused a chain reaction as stopped vehicles where slammed into each other.
FHP troopers said the driver of the pickup truck, Trevor Mann a twenty four year old from Sarasota was driving up the inside left lane and for reasons unknown did not stop or slow down enough to avoid a violent crash with the cars waiting for traffic.
The pickup truck smashed into a Pontiac Vibe. Both the driver, seventy four year old Jack Hayward of Venice, and his passenger, sixty nine year old Linda Maynard also of Venice, were gravely injured.
The force of the crash shoved the Pontiac Vibe into the car in front of it with enough force to damage two more cars in front also waiting for traffic.
Hayward was taken to Blake Medical Center with Serious injuries and his passenger, Maynard was also taken to Blake Medical Center listed in critical condition.
Additionally, Kathi Patton, a fifty year old from Ellenton suffered minor injuries after her car was rear-ended by Hayward’s Pontiac and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The fourth vehicle hit by the rear end crash was driven by twenty nine year old Rosalinda Ramirez, from Bradenton who also suffered minor injuries from the accident.
Mann, the driver of the Dodge pickup that caused the crash only suffered minor injuries and after being taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital was cited by FHP for careless driving.
Tuesday morning the driver of a Buick sedan heading south on U.S. 301 cut across the median and proceeded south in the north-bound lanes.
The Buick still driving south in the northbound lanes entered a curve in U.S. 301 at he same time a tractor-trail was entering the same curve from the other side.
The driver of the truck, Otniel Medina attempted to turn to avoid crashing into the Buick but the two vehicles collided violently killing the driver of the Buick.
Due to the nature of the injuries sustained by the the driver it took authorities some time to determine the identity of the driver. Police reported the drive was 83-year old Julian Laney from Venice.
Apparently both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and it is still unknown why Laney was driving the wrong way or whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
A traffic accident involving a man hit by a car on U.S. 301 was being investigated by Sarasota Police.
Full details are pending however police reported the accident happened at 8:30 in the evening on Saturday when the pedestrian attempted to cross 301 close to 30th Street.
The motorist who struck the driver attempted to avoid hitting him by swerving and braking hard but was unable to avoid striking the man.
The injured pedestrian was taken by first responders to Sarasota Memorial for emergency medical treatment.
U.S. 301 was shutdown in two lanes for several hours to allow the Sarasota Police department to fully investigate the accident.
Florida Highway Patrol announced a man from Sarasota was seriously injured Saturday night when his Ford Explorer overturned on U.S. 301
The accident took place when Juan Hernandez who was not wearing a seat belt attempted to turn onto U.S. 301 from Tellevast Road when the SUV he was driving spun and overturned rolling into the north lanes. Police also reported that they will be charging Hernandez with driving without a license and careless driving.
Hernandez, seriously injured was taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment.
Florida Highway Patrol reported two motorcyclists were injured attempting to avoid a collision with a pickup truck in Manatee County.
The accident happened when the motorcyclists, Eddie Cruz a seventeen year old from Parrish and Wilfredo Feliciano a thirty three year old also from Parrish were riding a Honda motorcycle heading east on 301,near Old Tampa Road when a silver pickup truck attempting to make a U-turn drove directly in front of the oncoming motorcyclists.
The Feliciano laid the bike down to avoid colliding with the truck and the motorcycle overturned. The pickup truck sped off fleeing the scene of the accident.
First responders transported both Cruz and Feliciano to Manatee Memorial Hospital for medical treatment of minor injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was a white male and witness reports indicate the make of the truck most likely a Toyota.
