Palmetto Motorcyclist Dies From Crash With SUV

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Tuesday April 3rd a motorcyclist from Palmetto Florida was involved in a serious accident in which an SUV in the wrong lanes of U.S. 41 struck his motorcycle.

The Palmetto Florida Motorcyclist, David J. Quackenbush, 28, later died of his injuries, Thursday after being taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet while following another car on the northbound lanes on U.S. 41 at the 3000 block. The car Quackenbush was following on his Yamaha motorcycle suddenly swerved onto the median to evade an oncoming vehicle heading the wrong way. The driver of the car avoided a collision and was not hurt, but the oncoming SUV struck the motorcyclist head on. The resulting collision threw Mr. Quackenbush from his motorcycle onto the windshield of the SUV and then to the median.

The Florida Highway patrol identified the driver of the SUV as Jesse L. Kates, Jr., of Bradenton (32). Mr. Kates suffered only minor injuries and was cited for careless driving. Alcohol was not involved in crash.
