Hit and Run Kills Pedestrian From Venice
Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal hit and run collision Tuesday that claimed the life of a Venice woman.
The accident occurred on U.S. 41 just south of Montgomery Avenue after 12:00 a.m. as Erika Fortner, 41 of Venice attempted to cross the road. While walking crossing Tamiami Trail Fortner was struck by an oncoming car.
Witnesses described the car as a Maroon hatchback. After colliding with Fortner, the car sped away however a side-view mirror was recovered at the scene.
Fortner was taken to Blake Medical Center were she later died.
Florida Highway Patrol has asked anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 239-938-1800.
