Port Charlotte Boy In Critical Condition After Being Hit By Car

A pedestrian – vehicle accident in Port Charlotte resulted in a 12-year old boy in critical condition.

Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident took place just after 7p.m. Sunday when two pedestrians attempted to cross the Northbound lanes of U.S. 41 at Conway Boulevard.

The driver of a Honda Civic, Robert Whetsel, 29, of North Port turned sharply to avoid the running pedestrians but was unable to avoid hitting Taylor Welbourne, 12 of Port Charlotte.

FHP stated Whetsel would not have been able to avoid the accident. The injured boy was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment and then sent on to All Children’s for more advanced treatment.
