Semi Truck Accident Kills Ellenton Senior
Palmetto Police reported Monday morning the driver of a pick up truck, 80-year old William Field was struck by a semi-truck and killed.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Haben. Blvd and U.S. 41. Field turned left onto the southbound lanes U.S. 41 from Haben. Blvd and into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer. The 18-wheeler, an 1998 International collided with Field’s Toyota pickup while crossing the northbound lanes. Police said witnesses stated the semi ran a red light causing the accident.
As of yet no charges have been filed against the driver of the truck, Donald Thomas, 41, of Tampa however Palmetto police officers were still investigating the accident.
William Field was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers noted the speed limit is 50MPH at that particular stretch of 41 and accidents at that location are often serious.
