Car vs Verizon Truck Crash Injures Woman In South Venice

A crash sent a woman to the hospital and left traffic crawling on South Tamiami Trail around 2 p.m. Monday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a Verizon utility vehicle struck a Ford Fusion. The car turned from Baffin Drive to northbound U.S. 41 into the path of the truck, which had the right of way.

The Verizon truck hit the driver’s side of the car, spinning it into the southbound lane of U.S. 41.

Two passengers in the car, including a child, were unharmed. But the driver was trapped inside.

Emergency workers spent about 10 minutes to free the woman, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. She was taken by ambulance to Venice Regional Medical Center. Authorities said her injuries were not life-threatening.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
