Semi-tractor Trailer Overturns On I-75 At Bradenton Injures 3

Florida Highway patrol reported an early morning accident on I-75 involving an overturned tractor-trailer that shut down the northbound lanes from shortly after 2:15 a.m. until they were reopened nearly six hours later at 8a.m.

The crash on the freeway took place in Bradenton about one mile south of the Sate Road 70  ramp in the northbound lanes when  the driver of a Freightliner tractor trailer, sixty one year old Donny Pannell, failed to maintain control of the truck.

The truck which was traveling at speed slid and rotated until it slammed into the concrete barrier on the west side of the highway. After smashing into the barrier it swerved back in the other direction, crossed all lanes of traffic again and crashed into the barrier on the east side of the highway, which caused the tractor-trailer to roll over onto it’s side blocking the northbound lanes.

Additionally, the truck was being followed by German Rodriguez, a 44-year old from Palmetto. When the Freighliner began to crash, Rodriguez attempted to stop from hitting the trailer but the was unable to avoid crashing into the trailer with his Chevy SIlverado.

Both the passenger in the Silverado and Rodriguez sustained minor injuries in the crash. Pannell , the driver of the semi also sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was cited for careless driving and the driver of the SIlverado was cited for driving without a license.
