14-year Old Driver Falls Asleep At The Wheel – Causes Manatee County Crash Injuring Six

Florida Highway patrol reported a two-vehicle crash Sunday night that occurred because an under-age driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The crash happened shortly after six Sunday evening when 14-year old Armando Acevedo from Palmetto was heading west in a Ford F-150 on CR 675 (Rutland Road) and east of 136th near where the road curves away from Parrish.

Also in the pickup truck was a thirty eight year old and a nine-year old.

At roughly fifteen minutes after six, the pickup truck approached the sweeping curve and Acevedo fell asleep while driving.

After the young driver fell asleep the F-150 drifted off the road to the north swerving across both traffic lanes then drifted back across the road to south where the pickup crashed into a Nissan sedan driven by sixteen-year old Bevyn Ward also from Parrish. The Nissan sedan – an Altima was also carrying a four year old and another passenger.

Ward suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Blake Medical Center for Treatment. Five others were also injured in the crash and received minor injuries including the 4-year old.

FHP has issued several charges including driving with out a license, careless driving and the adult also riding in the F-150 was charged with allowing a minor to drive.
