Manatee County Crash Kills One Leaves Another In Serious Condition
Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash on a rural road in east Manatee County Saturday Morning.
The deadly crash took place after seven in the morning on Saturday when Jose Herrera was driving an Audi A6 heading south on CR39.
Herrera came upon slower traffic and attempted to pass the vehicles. However an Ford Expedition was in the northbound lanes heading north.
Herrera apparently miss-judged the distances or did not see the approaching SUV and the two vehicles collided as the Audi nearly completed the pass.
The Expedition was driven by Darrel Catrett and 22 year old from Litthia Florida. Catrett suffered serious injuries resulting from the crash and was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Herrera was killed by the head on collision though FHP has not stated whether he was wearing a seat belt at the time, given the size disparity and closing speed between the two vehicles it likely would not have helped.
