Punta Gorda Car Crash Kills One

Florida Highway Patrol Reported an elderly woman died as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash Wednesday morning.

The accident happened when 89-year old Lilian Stainaker was attempting to back out of the driveway of a home close to the intersection of Sugarwood Street and Pine Needle Dr. at roughly 5:15 in the afternoon.

Stainaker accidentally accelerated too hard and speed the 2008 Ford Fusion sedan across Sugarwood Street and crashed into a mobile home.

Stainaker was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where she died of her injuries. No charges were filed and FHP has not indicated whether Stainaker was wearing a sea belt.
