Lakeland Man Killed In Manatee County Crash With Semi
Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident between a Toyota Prius and a tractor trailer on State Road 62 in Manatee County.
According to troopers the crash took place shortly before nine thirty a.m. when Gerald Yankovich, a seventy-one year old from Lakeland was driving his Toyota Prius on State road 62 in eastern manatee county when he collided with the rear of a tractor trailer.
The truck, driven by a man from Duette, had been stopped and waiting for traffic before turning left into a private driveway.
Yankovich failed to see the oncoming vehicle and crashed into the back of the trailer at speed in the compact car.
The force of the impact killed Yankovich. Two passengers were also in the Prius at the time of the crash, a twenty-eight year old mother and her ten year old son. Yankovich had been enroute to All Children’s Hospital taking part in the Share Ride Transportation program.
Both the mother and child suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
No charges were filed after the crash.
