Sarasota Traffic Signal Worker Seriously Injured In Hit and Run Accident

Florida Highway Patrol announced a Sarasota County traffic signal worker was seriously injured in a hit and run incident in Nokomis Sunday night.

The accident took place at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Roberts Road in Nokomis at roughly fifteen after 11p.m.

Witnesses described a white Ford Taurus that struck traffic signal worker Robert Smith as he was working on a job site standing partially in closed turn lane by the southbound lanes at the Roberts Road, Tamiami Trail intersection.

The car was last seen fleeing the crash scene driving east on Lakeview Drive.

Florida Highway Patrol has asked anyone with knowledge of the hit and run crash to call them at 239-938-1800.
