Deadly Accident On U.S. 19 In Clearwater Blocks Highway

U.S. 19 in Clearwater was closed Friday evening in the aftermath of a deadly crash.

Florida Highway Patrol stated the crash took place as a 2004 Honda Civic was traveling at excessive speeds near Celebration Station.

When the driver attempted to negotiate the exit to Sunset Point Road the driver lost control and the Honda crashed into a utility pole with enough force to drop the power lines into the roadway blocking traffic.

The driver of the car, Luis Sanchez of Clearwater was pronounced dead by first responders.

Power was down through the night and not restored until 7 a.m. the next day.
