Scooter Rider Seriously Injured By Hit-And-Run Driver
Florida Highway Patrol reported a hit and run collision between a scooter and a full-sized Ford SUV.
The crash took place as a twenty-nine year old male was riding south on U.S. 41 at roughly 10:30p.m.
North of the intersection of River Road and 41 the motor scooter was struck from behind by a driver in a Ford Expedition SUV.
The force of the impact threw the rider from his motor scooter onto the shoulder of U.S. 41. The impact seriously injured the downed rider.
The crash sandwiched the scooter under the SUV, where it became lodged and dragged down the road for more than 1,000 feet. Witnesses said the SUV came to a stop and the drive got out, pulled the smashed scooter from under the vehicle and then proceeded to flee the scene.
The helmetless injured scooter rider was brought to Sarasota memorial for treatment of serious injuries. Authorities are seeking information about the driver of the SUV and have asked anyone with knowledge to contact them at 941-751-8350.
