DUI Crash Lands Sarasota Man In Serious Condition

Drunk driver causes mini-van crash with injuries on S.R. 72.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that eighty year-old Lee Fleming turned onto the westbound lanes of Clark Road at the intersection with Sawyer Road when he was hit by a Nissan Sienna traveling at speed on Clark.

The accident took place at roughly 4:45 in the afternoon when Lee Fleming entered Clark road from a green light on Sawyer Road. As Fleming drove onto to the westbound lanes of Clark he turned into the left hand lanes and was hit by a speeding Nissan Sienna mini-van.

The driver of the Nissan, twenty three year old Oscar Ovalles was traveling at speed down the westbound lanes on Clark road and ran the red light at Sawyer. As he sped through the light, Fleming pulled into the lane Ovalles was traveling in and the two vehicle crashed violently.

At the last moment Fleming saw the approaching Nissan and attempted to turn away but was unable to avoid the collision. The crash resulted in both Fleming and Ovalles being taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Fleming was in serious condition while Ovalles only sustained minor injuries. Police arrested and charged Ovalles with driving under the influence with serious bodily injury and violation of a traffic signal.
