Ambulance and Bicyclist Crash Results In Cyclist Critically Injured

A cyclist in Nokomis was hit by an ambulance early Monday morning in Nokomis. The accident happened as twenty four year old cyclist Martin Rudis was heading south on Orange Grove Road in Nokomis.

As Rudis closed on the intersection with Edmondson Road, an ambulance driven by Mark Quimby of Venice, was on Edmondson and heading toward the same intersection.

Once at the intersection of Organge Grove and Edmondson, cyclist Rudis failed to stop at the stop sign and attempted to cross the road.

Rudis entered the path of the oncoming ambulance with no time for Quimby to avoid a collision. At roughly 1:30 a.m. the ambulance crashed into Rudis.

Rudis who was not wearing a helmet at during the crash was critically injured and taken to Sarasota Memorial for treatment.
