14 Year Old Bicyclist killed in Port Charlotte Hit-and-Run
Police are searching for the driver of a hit-and-run pickup truck that was involved in a fatal crash with a fourteen year old cyclist.
FHP announced fourteen year old Devin Federly was riding southbound on his bicycle on Sheehan Blvd just north of the intersection with State Ave., along the edge of the roadway.
At approximately 8p.m. what was described as an older pickup truck apparently crossed into the wrong lanes an struck Federly. After the impact the driver of the truck fled the scene.
The force of the impact threw the fourteen year old boy from his bicycle and onto the side of the road.
Federly was rushed to Bayfront Port Charlotte for treatment but medical staff were unable to save him.
Police stated a witness described the vehicle as a silver pickup truck with a single cab that was damaged in the right front and front windshield.
Florida Highway Patrol has asked that anyone who has knowledge of the pickup or witnessed the crash to call them at 239-344-1730.
