DUI Crash Kills Cyclist In Bradenton

Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash involving a cyclist and a SUV Sunday evening.

The collision happened at roughly eight in the afternoon as sixty-seven year old Daniel Lord of Bradenton was cycling on Cortez Road, attempting to cross from the westbound lanes to the eastbound side of the road.

At the same time thirty year old Eric Brenner also of Bradenton was driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee eastward on Cortez Road approaching 102nd street.

As Brenner drove down Cortez, he failed to see Lord crossing the roadway on his bicycle and crashed into Lord, striking the cyclist on the right side with the front of his SUV.

Lord had not been wearing a helmet during the crash and died from his injuries at the scene.

Police have stated that alcohol was a factor in the crash and that Brenner will be charged with driving under the influence.
