15 Year Old Killed By Car-Strike In Palmetto

Florida Highway Patrol announced a 15 year old boy was struck and killed while attempting to cross U.S. 41 in Palmetto.

FHP stated the tragic pedestrian accident took place at approximately 6:30 a.m. as fifteen year old Myquarios Kelly from Palmetto was at the intersection of 23rd Street East and U.S. 41. At the same time driver, sixty four year old John D’Auria from Tampa was driving on U.S. 41 approaching the intersection with 23rd Street East in the morning gloom in a Lexus ES300H sedan.

As D’Auria closed on the intersection, Kelly attempted to cross the road moving from the east side of the road toward the west side. D’Auria failed to see the 15 year old in the darkness and struck Kelly while he was crossing the road.

The Lexus impacted with Kelly on the right side, the force of the crash throwing Kelly onto the roadway.

Kelly died as a result of his injuries, FHP also stated that alcohol had not been a factor in the deadly crash.
