School Bus Crash In East Manatee Injures Students
A crash in eastern Manatee county between a school bus and a commercial bus has been reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that the crash began as a bus from Manatee County Public Schools was transporting twenty nine students from Nolan Middle School on State Road 64.
Driven by fifty year old bus driver Tammy Hartley, the bus was stopped in the westbound lanes of SR64 close the stop at 411th Street East.
At roughly the same time bus driver sixty six year old Sergio Rodriguez was driving a Freightliner commercial bus transporting 49 adult workers also on the westbound lanes of state road 64.
For reasons unknown Rodriguez did not notice the stopped school bus in time to avoid a collision, and the Freightliner bus crashed into the rear of the school bus.
The collision resulted in fifteen Nolan Middle School students sustaining minor injuries, none serious enough to require a hospital stay.
Neither the driver nor the passengers in the Freightliner bus were injured in the crash.
Troopers have stated that Rodriguez has been charged with careless driving.
