Fatal Truck Accident In Manatee County

Florida Highway Patrol announced one person was killed and another seriously injured after being involved in a accident with a tractor-trailer in rural Manatee county.

According to the FHP release, the deadly crash took place as forty seven year old truck driver Yamir Pardo from Lakeland Florida was driving a loaded Freightliner heavy truck westbound on SR 62 approaching the intersection with County road 39.

As the Freightliner approached, twenty seven year old Brandy Ibey from Coral Springs Florida arrived at the intersection driving a Volkswagen GTI.

At approximately 7:45 a.m., Ibey attempted to turn left onto State Road 62 from County Road 39 and drove the compact car directly into the path of the oncoming truck.

Pardo swerved the semi to the left in an attempt to avoid the crash, however the two vehicles collided. The force of the collision combined with Pardo’s attempt to turn away from the Volkswagen caused the heavy truck to overturn where it came to a stop on the solder.

FHP officials stated that both the truck driver Pardo, and the driver of the car had been wearing seat belts during the crash. However Pardo was seriously injured and Ibey was killed during the collision despite wearing safety belts.

FHP has stated the an investigation is ongoing.
