Cyclist In Arcadia Killed By Car-Strike On State Road 70

ARCADIA, FL – Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident involving a bicyclist on state road 70.

The accident took place as 61 year old Lazaro Coopinger from Acradia Florida was riding a three wheeled bicycle heading east on state road 70.

As Coopinger cycled toward SE Townsend Avenue, 38 year old Bobby Lee Young Jr., also from Arcadia was approaching from the rear driving a 2016 Chrysler 200 with passenger Kenneth Christian, 38 from Port Charlotte.

At approximately 1:35 AM, the Chrysler sedan’s right front crashed into the left rear of the 3-wheeled bicycle, throwing the bicycle and rider down onto the roadway.

Coopinger was taken to Desoto Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Officials from the FHP have stated that the accident is still under investigation.
