Motorcyclist Killed In Rear-End Crash Near Palmetto

Manatee County FL – Florida Highway Patrol Reported a fatal motorcycle accident Friday afternoon near Palmetto.

The crash took places as 70 year old Richard Henry of Manatee County Florida was stopped at a traffic light on US 41 (State Road 45) driving a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder SUV just north of 39th Street East in the northbound lanes.

As Henry waited for the light to turn, 67 year old William Hardesty also of Manatee County was approaching from the rear riding a 2014 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. For reasons unknown, Hardesty failed to stop as he rapidly approached the stopped SUV and crashed into the rear of the vehicle.

After Hardesty collided with the right rear of the SUV the motorcycle continued forward to the right where it crashed into a sign post throwing Hardesty from the motorcycle, however the vehicle continued on before finally coming to a stop in front of the Angler’s Discount Store.

Though Hardesty was wearing a helmet during the crash he died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision. Henry was not harmed in the accident.
