One Injured In 7-Vehicle I-75 Truck Crash in Collier County Tuesday Evening

Collier County – Florida Highway Patrol has announced that one man is in serious condition after a seven-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon 

FHP stated that the accident was located on Northbound Interstate I- 75 and Mile Marker 88.

Who Was Involved:

vehicle one, a tractor-trailer (Semi-truck), was driven by a man aged 33 from Riverview, Florida he sustained serious injuries from the accident. 

vehicle two, a pickup truck, was driven by a man aged 20 from Naples,  Florida with a passenger aged 56 from Naples, Florida.

vehicle three, a pickup truck, was driven by a woman aged 49 from Palmetto, Florida.

vehicle four, a sedan, was driven by a man aged 38 from Naples, Florida with two passengers, one woman aged 47 from Naples, Florida and another unknown passenger was also in the sedan.

vehicle five, a sport utility vehicle, was driven by a man aged 74 from Dartmouth City, MA with six passengers the first a woman aged 65 from Dartmouth, MA, a second passenger a woman aged 43 from Granger, IN, a third passenger a female aged 7 from Granger, IN, a fourth passenger a female aged 5 from Granger, IN,  a fifth passenger a female age 3 from Granger, IN,  and a sixth passenger aged 9 from Granger, IN.

vehicle six, a sport utility vehicle, was driven by a man aged 49 from Miami, Florida.

vehicle seven, a tractor-trailer, was driven by a man aged 56 from Madison, WI

Events Of The Crash

As vehicle one – the Semi-trailer truck – was traveling westbound on Interstate 75 in the right lane following the other vehicles involved.

Vehicles 2,3,4,5,6, and 7 ahead of the tractor-trailer encountered traffic congestion from an un-related accident at mile-marker 88 and had come to a stop.

At 4:58 the tractor-trailer failed to slow down and the front of the tractor-trailer crashed into the rear end of vehicle 2 the pickup truck, was driven by a man aged 20 from Naples, Florida with a passenger aged 56 from Naples, Florida. 

After crashing into vehicle 2, the tractor-trailer (Semi-truck), driven by the man from Riverview, Florida proceeded down the right shoulder and the left side of this vehicle where it sideswiped vehicle 3, a pickup truck, was driven by the woman from Palmetto, and vehicle 4, the sedan, driven by the man from Naples. 

After side-swiping vehicles 3 and 4, the tractor-trailer (Semi-truck) then collided with the guardrail, causing it to reenter the westbound travel lanes of I-75 and crash into the rear of vehicle five,  the sport utility vehicle by the man from Dartmouth City, MA with six passengers.

Vehicle five was then dragged in a westerly direction by the truck, and the front of vehicle five collided with the front of vehicle six, the sport utility vehicle, driven by the man from Miami, Florida.

Despite already crashing into so many other vehicles,  tractor-trailer (Semi-Truck)  still continued to travel west where the front of the Semi-Truck collided with the rear of the seventh vehicle, the other tractor-trailer driven by a 56-year-old man from Madison, WI.

 

Aftermath Of The Crash

Despite such a heavy vehicle crashing into so many others, only the driver of vehicle one was seriously hurt in the crash.

However, the driver of vehicle five, the man from Dartmouth MA also sustained minor injuries in the accident.

FHP has stated that the investigation is ongoing accordingly.
